Tenerife

Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands and is known as the island of eternal spring. This Spanish speaking island has the Euro as its currency and attracts 3 million visitors a year. It was said of the Canary Islands that they were the peaks of the lost continent that housed the Temple of Poseidon and was home to descendants of the god Atlas.

When one visits any of the places of natural beauty in Tenerife it is easy to see why it became a place of legend and its spellbinding beauty endures even in modern times; one of the two main tourist attractions on the island are Mount Teide National Park which has its own volcano which boasts an altitude of 3,718 metres. It is the highest mountain in Spain and remains the biggest tourist attraction in Tenerife. Tours of the volcano are available though booking in advance is always advisable.

The second biggest tourist attraction is Loro Parque which houses over 300 parrot species, tigers, jaguars amongst other animals and has the worlds largest Penguinarium. The Penguinarium at Loro Parque has become famous in its own right for having a reproduction Antarctic climate in which 12 tons of snow falls each day!
