Welcome to Lanzarote Island
Lanzarote is not a city itself but an island part of the Canaries, which are part of the Spanish territory.
One of the largest islands in the Canaries, Lanzarote is located right in front of the African North western coast. This 60 kilometer-long island is an amazing place, its unique landscape covered with volcanic lava remembers of the surface of the moon.
Moreover Lanzarote is a living witness of the triumph of man in a hostile environment and natives are famous for their respect of nature. The island declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO has more than 300 volcanoes; however it is still possible to grow vegetables and specially grapes in the fields covered by black ash.
The island is not as crowded by tourist as its neighbours Tenerife or Gran Canaria and is a peaceful and charming destination where you will find harmony with environment, lovely beaches and a surprising nature.

The island has two main parts, the North where you will find most tourist attractions and the South, famous for its beaches and where most hotels are located. In approximately one hour drive you can travel from the Northern coast to the Southern one.
The capital of the island is the city of Arrecife in the eastern coast of the island. When you fly to Lanzarote you will land in the airport of Arrecife in a runway right by the sea, an amazing first impression of the island.
